Man Killed When Car Hits Tree
Two Other Occupants Injured (P.A.) Wanganui, Aug. 19. A 20-year-old. Palmerston North man is dead and a young Bulls woman in hospital with shock and shoulder injuries following a car accident between the Maxwell railway station and Kai Iwi Beach at 11 o'clock last night. The man killed is Mr Desmond John Purcell, single, of Church* Street, Palmerston North. He suffered severe head injuries when the car he was riding in struck a macrocarpa tree on the roadside after it had ploughed through a pool of water on the road. He was rushed to hospital by ambulance and died at 3 p.m. today. His injured companion was Miss Peggy Young, of Bulls, whose condi-* lion today is comfortable. Mr Patrick John Cunneen, of Palmerston North, suffered abrasions to the face and hands and was treated in the hospital out-patients' department. The fourth occupant, Miss Olive Young, of Bulls, was uninjured.
