Two Tauranga Men Sentenced
Breaking And Entering Admitted On a charge of breaking and entering and theft at Tauranga, Toro McLeod, aged 24 (Mr Aekins), and Punga Taki, aged 20, appeared for sentence before Mr Justice Stanton in the Supreme Court, Auckland. Mr Aekins said there had been a drining party of three, including the two accused, and then they were joined by four other Maoris at the back of the premises that were broen into. They were all inside and McLeod's part seemed to have been to grab a bottle of wine and a bottle of sherry. His Hcnor said this was deliberate breaing and entering and theft, and drunkenness was no excuse for crime. McLeod was the older of the two and probably more responsible, and he would be sentenced to 18 months' reformative detention. Taki would be sentenced to 12 months' reformative detention.
