Communists To Put Forward Hundred Candidates
(Rec. 8.55 a.m.) London, Aug. 19. The vice-chairman of the British Communist Party spoke at a news conference in London today about the draft Communist programme for the next general election. He said Great Britain needed a new trading policy with the nondollar world, and co-operation with the .Soviet Union to pave the way for international agreement on the reduction of arms. He also said that —in the long run —the Communists were a republican party and supported the abolition of the British Monarchy. In the coming general election the Communist Party was putting forward 100 candidates. Eighty, he said, had already been adopted and were at work in their constituencies.
