New Boiler Installed At Hospital
Supplying- Steam For All Purposes A new boiler has been installed in the recently constructed boiler house at the Tauranga Hospital and is now' in partial operation. The boiler is 'Of the under-feed, multi-tubular type frequently used in hospitals, and is automatically fed. The fuel is sprayed, by an intricate fixture which is based on the principle of a household mincer, the coal falling on to a plate from which it is transferred to the furnace, by a forced draught at c rate equivalent to hand fuelling. The resident engineer, Mr W. Hodder, stated that the new boiler would later supply . steam for all purposes in the hospital buildings. These wotdd include steam for* water heating, laundry, sterilising, space heating (of rooms and wards), and eventually for .cooking. - The steam is at present supplied only to the. laundry, but the trenches to carry the pipes to the hospital buildings are now .dug and it. is expected that the connections to the buildings will be completed shortly. •; It is hoped that a second boiler of a similar type but larger, will be installed at the hospital later this year. .•
