Invitation To Mount To Discuss Amalgamation Scheme
Following the recent decision of the Tauranga Borough Council to request the Local Government Commission to consider the advisibility of an amalgamation of the Tauranga and Mount Maungauui local bodies, the Mayor, Mr L. R. Wilkinson sent the following letlcr to the Mayor of Mount Maungauui, Mr S. F. Newton:—
"At the meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council held last evening, it was decided to advocate the amalgamation of the Tauranga Borough, Mount Maungauui, and Tauranga Harbour Board. The Council were of the opinion that before any further action be taken, a meeting with your council should be arranged and the position discussed. I will be srlad therefore, if you can fix a time when members of my Council can meet your Council and go into this matter."
