Most Successful Season

Report To CLS.O.B. Football Club

To Support Efforts To Improve Rugby

Last season had been a most successful one said Mr E. W. Aked, president of the High School Old Boys’ Football Club, when presenting his annual report to the general meeting of the club held in the Rowing Club hall on Wednesday evening.

This success had been achieved financially and from the point of view of the game itself, continued the president. Both teams had played good football and had won their competitions and the financial position of tiie club was better than it had ever been.

The speaker went on to thank the St. John Ambulance for their untiring efforts during the season and to express his appreciation of the services rendered to the club by Mr T. Murgatroyd in the capacity of club captain. Thanks were also extended to the secretary, Mr F. Waldegrave, the committee and Mr C. Tutchen.

The financial report presented by the secretary-treasurer, Mr F. Waldegravo showed the excellent financial position of the club. The president then outlined a “players insurance” scheme which it was hoped to put into operation this year and pointed out the advantages offered by the adoption of such a scheme. It was decided that the club should support the scheme. The president gave a review of three proposed methods, by which it. was hoped to improve the general standard of Rugby in Tauranga.

After some controversial discussion it was decided to support a move to amalgamate a number of the clubs, bringing the number of .senior teams in the Tauranga competition down to five. This, it was hoped, would help to eliminate such players as took the field on Saturdays to make up a full team, and for no other purpose, and by doing this, improve the general standard of play in the district. A representative of the St. John Ambulance gave a short appeal for help from playing members of the club in carrying out of the Brigade's duties which, he pointed out, were becoming very heavy duo to the small size of the division in Tauranga. He pointed out too that if a few members, preferably players, could attend a series of lectures given by the division, there would be a greater sense of security in knowing that there was someone icadily available who could help in case of emergency. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr W. Roigard; president. Mr E. W. Aked (this appointment was conditional on another president being selected shortly, Mr Aked pointing out that the nature of his outside duties would prevent his continuing in this position); club captain, Mr T. Murgatroyd; vice club captain, Mr N. Harwood; secretary. Mr F. Waldegrave; treasurer, Mr Mclntyre; senior coach, Mr K. Dunlon; junior coach Mr P. Jensen; committee, Messrs M. Gilpin, N. Smith, G. Ronayne and N. Aitken. The following were appointed delegates to t’m Rugbv Union, Messrs Dunlop, Jensen and Murgatroyd.
