Tauranga institutes Hold Their Annual Meetings

Mt. Maunganui, Apata And Tauriko (Times Correspondent) There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Mount Maunganui Women's Institute at which Mrs S. G. Clifford presided. Mrs McNaughton, who is a vicepresident of the Dominion Federation, gave a very interesting talk on the work of the Associated Country Women of the World Sccietv and on that of the Women's Institute in England. She referred in particular to the beautiful and unusual Christmas calendars and cards which these English Institutes put out each year and suggested that the District Federation should consider some along the same lines for the coming season. At the conclusion of Mrs McNaughton's address Mrs Clifford extended thanks en behalf of the members and presented her with a shoulder spray.

Reviewing the work of the Institute, Mrs Clifford stated that the year had been very successful. She, expressed thanks to all the members for their co-operation and, in particular, to the committee who had devoted a great deal of time to institute wcrk.

Floral sprays were presented to Mrs Ludwig who had contributed much in connection with the distribution of food parcels and letters to the link institute in England, and to Mrs Mugridge for indefatigable work as minute secretary and treasurer during the year. Sprays were also presented to the two retiring committee members, Mrs Hague and Mrs Payne. Mrs Thomas presented Mrs Clifford with a shoulder spray as a small token of the members' appreciation of the good work she had done in the capacity of acting president. The executive's thanks to various individuals and organisations were also recorded. The points prize for the year was won by Mrs Young, who was presented with a beautiful Coleus pot plant. The winner of the competition held fcr the best three eggless biscuits was Mrs Lilley, Mrs Payne gaining second place. Officers elected for 1949-50 were: President. Mrs S. G. Clifford; committee, Mesdames Alcock, Bowden, Gilliver, Lil'ey. Ludwig, Mugridge, Revell and Thomas. The appointment of n secretary, treasurer and ether officers, is to bo made later.
