PEOHIB7TION OF SALE ADVOCATED • REMITS TO N.Z. COUNTIES ASSOCIATION (P.A.) Hamilton, March 15. Remits to go forward to the annual conference of the New Zealand Counties' Association were discussed by the No. 2 (Waikato) Ward at a conference in Hamilton. Mr F. L. Onion presided. Of the eight suggested remits four were approved, one was referred to the "County Clerks' Association and the remaining three were defeated.

A remit from Matamata, urging that pensions under superannuation schemes should be exempt from social security tax., on the grounds that the pensioner had already paid tax on his wages before the deduction of contributions, was adopted. A further remit, also from Matamata. which advocated the introduction of legislation controlling the erection of grocery boxes, cream stands, cattle-stops, etc, at farm entrances, was also adopted.

: A third remit from Matamata, * "that section nine of the Noxious • Weeds Act, 1923, be amended to 1 prohibit the sale of hay containing ' ragwort plants or seeds," was also adopted. A remit from the Waipa County Council, "that the committee set up « to allocate import licences for roadmaking machinery be urged to make an early decision in respect to the allocation of licences for 1950," was adopted.
