Federation's Case Heard By Court

Employers' Rebuttal Next Tuesday

(P.A.) Wellington, March 15. The hearing of the application of .he Federation of Labour for a .tandard wages pronouncement, ;eeking an increase of 6d an hour, jr £1 a week, was commenced in the of Arbitration today. The claim is opposed by the Employers' Federation, which, however, has also filed an application for a standard wages pronouncement. An estimate that the increase in the wages bill would be about £25,000.000 if the claim was granted was made by the secretary of the Federation of Labour, Mr K. McL; Baxter. He contended that prices and profits were running ahead of wages, and that wages and salary earners were due for a substantial improvement in their purchasing power, The case for the workers, which covered 77 typed pages, occupied all day. The Court then adjourned until next Tuesday morning, when the employers' rebuttal and application will be commenced.
