CONFIRMATION OF SEATS IN CHRISTCHURCH

MR APPLETON CONSIDERING REQUEST TO STAND

(P.A.) Wellington, March 14. ■ Two sitting members of the National Party representing Christchurch electorates have been confirmed in their candidature for the general election this year. They are Messrs J. T. Watts, St. Albans, and J. K. McAlpine, Selwyn. Four nominations ' have been received by the National Party for the Lyttelton seat, which is held by the Minister of Education, Mr McCombs. A selection ba.lot will be held on April 12. When the Mayor of Wellington, Mr W. Appleton, was asked by a deputation of citizens today if he wculd stand as a National Party candidate for Wellington Central, he asked for a week to consider it. He said he did not intend to contest the Mayoralty at the next local body election,
