CABBAGE CROP TO BE PLOUGHED IN
EXPERIENCE OF GISBORNE
GROWERS
i p. A.I Gisborne. Dec. 22. While cabbages are being quoted retail at 3d per lb. being marked up at from -Id to KM each, growers are finding it uneconomic to cut them for the market. Growers have quoted 2s 6d to 3s a sack oi from 20 to 40 cabbages. Markets beyond Gisborne are also apparently glutted and there is no other outlet for the crop. •T am going to plough in 6000 cabbages because it does not pay me to cut them and market them tor a return of only a few farthings eack. ' said a Gisborne commercial grower today. "The over-supply is not reflected in the prices being charged to the public."
There is now no Government control on the price of cabbages. They are included among vegetables upon which price controls were lilted recently
