TAURANGA HOLIDAY ARRANGEMENTS
CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR
Shops To Close At 10 p.m. On Friday
Four-Day' Breaks For
Retail Trade
Although some retailers were in doubt as to the hour of closing on Christmas Eve, it appears from inquiries made, that 10 p.m. will be the accepted time. As in past years, when businessmen have been approached, the question “What are the others doing?” was raised by more than one retailer, who agreed that a lead on such issues should be given by an organisation. The present situation, they said, was unsatisfactory.
With retail trade at a standstill for four days on both the Christmas and New Year periods, housewives will have to purchase large stocks on the two Fridays to tide them over the holidays. These preparations are reflected in the almcst abnormal activity in the grocery trade.
