MINIMISING RISK TO PEDESTRIANS

PARKING SPACE NEAR SALISBURY WHARF

MT, MAUNGANUI BUS FIRM’S REQUESTS

(Times Correspondent)

An application for an official parking place near Salisbury Wharf for the bus meeting the ferries, has been received from Mount Buses Ltd. by the Mount Maunganui Borough Council. The applicant stated that with the congested traffic in the vicinity of the wharf it was desirable to have some proper parking place from which to disembark and take on passengers with a minimum risk to pedestrians. The council staff had recently removed a large sand bank near the entrance to Salisbury Wharf and permission to use this as a

depot was granted to the bus company.

The company also requested permission to erect bus stop signs at various points on its route and authority to establish a terminal near the Post Office. The council granted the requests subject to the terminal site being approved by the Works Committee. <
