TWO AIRMEN KILLED
MOSQUITO INTO SEA * DISTINGUISHED BOMBER PILOT (P.A.) Auckland, Aug. 27. A distinguished bomber pilot of the Second World War and a member of the technical ground staff of the Royal New Zealand Air Fc-we were killed when the Mosquito aircraft of which rhov were the occupants crashed into the sea oh Himatangi. near Foxton, at about 9.45 o'clock yesterday 'ramming. The victim? wore Flight Lieutenant George Ronald Smiich, D.F.C., coed 32, cf No. 75 Squadron, Ohakea (His wife, Mrs A. V. Simich, lives at 31 Denbigh Street, Feilding), and Flight Sergeant Victor Horton Baird, aged 28, R N.Z.A.F. station. Ohakea. His wife, Mrs N. E Baird, lives at the Inglewood HNtol. Inglewood. There are three children.
Scorch pinner, rent nut. when <li3 Mom uHo wns reported overdue sighted the wreckage. The aircraft was wrecked when it struck the s°n about 100 yards from the beach. At the tiny' of the crash, the aircraft was undergoing an air test, with authorised low flying.
