(P.A.) Wellington, July 1. The Government does not intend to repeal the Land Sales Act nor to interfere with the basis of valuation in which 1942 is taken as the base year. These two important points in Government policy were stated by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, and the Minister of Rehabilitation, Mr Skinner, today, in printed replies to Opposition questions which were tabled in the House of Representatives.' Mr J. R. Marshall (Opposition— Mount Victoria) and Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Opposition—Waitomo) had asked- the Prime Minister if his attention had been drawn to a recent judgment of the Maori Land Court that land sales legislation did not apply to Maori land, and if so, whether it was the intention of the Government either to repeal the land sales legislation or to apply it to Maori land.
“The law relating to and governing the alienation of Maori lands always has differed from that affecting other land,” replied the Prime Minister.
