Meeting Of Plunket Society
Annual Reports Of Sub-
Branches
Election Of Officers
For Year
The congratulations of the Mayor. Mr L. R. Wilkinson, who presided at the annual meeting of the Tauranga branch of the Plunket Society, were extended to the committee members for the work they had done during the past year. When referring to the building of the Tauranga South clinic, Mr Wilkinson said that the Plunket Society had established a wonderful service to the people of Tauranga, and the work it had done this year had been even more noticeable than in former years. An amendment to a motion that a single garage be erected for the Plunket car, suggesting that the advisory committee, in conjunction with the Plunket Society committee, should meet and go into details, was carried. Owing to the resignation of the Plunket sister, Miss Hally, it was thought that a single garage would be sufficient. A decision to write to the Attorney-General, to see if the Sarah Kingsbury fund, left to the Society for Karitane work could be diverted for the use of the Plunket Society was made at the meeting. The members felt that, as there was very little likelihood of a Karitane Hospital ever being built in Tauranga, the money should be put to other uses.
The Tc Puke sub-branch reported that a record number of babies and mothers had visited the Plunket rooms during the past year, and the committee expressed their appreciation to Sister Hally for her work.
The annual report of the Mount Maunganui sub-branch showed that money had been raised by various me'ms throughout the vear and that n further £IOO had been added to building fund account for the Plunket clinic. During the year the committee, in coniunction with the Mount Maunganui school committee, had approached Ihe Health Department, requesting it _to consider erecting a dental clinic at the Mount, as quite a number of nreschool children have to go to Tauranaa to the clinic and this was a hardship for the mothers, especiallv if they have younger children. The Katikati sub-branch reported that their financial position for a small branch was satisfactory insofar that they could meet their obligations and still hold a credit balance. It was reported that the Plunket rooms had been let to a tenant, and that a new measuring gauge had been added to the equipment.
Each sub-braneh expressed its appreciation of the work Sister Hally had done throughout the year. The election of officers resulted: Patrons. Mr and Mrs F. W. Doidge; president. Mrs J. S.
