ADDED PARALYSIS PRECAUTION

SITUATION IN NORTH ISLAND

(P.A.) Auckland, today. Following the admission to the Auckland Hospital of an infantile paralysis case from the Edendale School Sandringham Road, on Friday, the Health Department has decided to close the school for two weeks from today. _ The district medical officer of health, Dr L. S. Davis, announcing this last night, asked parents to take tills report as an intimation not to send their children to the school today. The Edendale School is one of the largest in the distrist. It is a contributing school for pupils up to standard four and is attended by about 750 children. The recent paralysis case is the second which has occurred at the school since the epidemic started. One suspect was admitted to the Auckland Hospital during the weekend. It was a child aged four years from Papatoetoe. There are now 49 positive and three suspect cases in hospital. Among the positive cases 37 are convalescent,

No new cases were admitted to the Waikato Flospital at the weekend. Two schools in Wellington which were kept closed last week because of infantile paralysis notifications in their locality are to reopen today.

A positive case from the Feathcrston district was admitted tc the Maserton Hospital during the _ weekend. The Fcatherston. district high school will be closed until further notice.
