VOLCANIC ACTIVITY CONTINUES

MOUNT NGAURUHOE CRATER STEAM VENT BELIEVED TO BE LARGER (P-A.) _ . Rotor.ua, May 3. Volcanic, activity continues in Mount Ngauruhoe tonight. A great column of ash-laden smoke is pouring from the crater, but observers believe it to bo slightly less dense than at the -week-end. 9 Explosions in the crater of Ngauruhoe last night are thought to have enlarged considerably the vent from which the mountain has been sending cut steam and ash almost continuously since Friday evening. The Government vulcanologist at Rotorua. Mr J. Heady, formed this opinion after a flight over the crater today.

It appeared, he' said tonight, that since the crater was inspected yesterday the steam vent had grown several times its former size, and now occupied a much greater area of Ihc u'GKtem corner of the crater than before.
