HOUSE-BUILDING CONTROLS
ABOLITION UEGED IN SOUTHLAND ENDING CONFUSION AND FRUSTRATION (P.A.) InvercargilL Anril 27. The abolition of controls for building residences was strongly urged by members at a meeting .of the Southland Building Industry Council. It was stated that if controls were not lifted there would be a total collapse in the building industry, and that 'at the present time industry was in such a state of confusion and frustration that it would take the trade, perhaps, 12 months to straighten out once builders were allowed to proceed in their normal way withoutbeing tied by controls. The following motion, moved by the chairman, Mr E. H. Smith, was carried unanimously:—"That the council request the Government to remove immediately controls and regulations on the building of residences and that a date be set by the Government, say, 12 months hence, for the removal of all other regulations and controls imposed on the building industry as wpr measures."
