STOPPING SQUEAK IN DYNAMO
TOUCH OF VASELINE EFFECTIVE
The squeaking of the dynamo brushes on the commutator can be very annoying. It is a high-pitched squeak, heard only when the engine is idling. If the band which covers the dynamo brushes is removed while the noise is being made, it will naturally be louder. If the finger tip is moistened with vaseline and the rotating commutator touched, it will stop the squeak—at least for the time. The only real cure is to get properly set brushes made of carbon containing graphite, which will lubricate the commutator sufficiently to eliminate squeaking.
