HIGH TIDES AT MAKETU
FLOOD WATERS FROM WATERSHEDS
(Times Correspondent)
During the last week, the lagoons at Waihi south and Maketu have been under water almost all, of the twenty-four hours each day. Exceptionally high tides backing up the estuaries and heavy flood waters coming down from the higher watersheds are filling the drains on the swamps to overflowing On both sides of Town Point the sea is discoloured for a distance of about a mile from the flood waters. Sportsmen have been busy trying to erect "maimais" and to nail up their notices on their stands, but the excess water has made this very difficult in some places.
