INCREASES IN PRICES OF FOODSTUFFS
STATEMENT BY LEADER OF OPPOSITION (P.A.) Christchurch, April 6. “Big increases in the prices of foodstuffs and other staple commodities produced in New Zealand are likely when the Havana Trade Charter is ratified, if the comment by Mr Nash is to be taken at its face value,” said the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, at a party meeting. Mr Holland was referring to what Mr Nash had said about the conference' decision on subsidies paid to producers to enable prices I*o be kept Sown on the home market, and he pointed out that this involved prices paid in New Zealand for butter, bread and locally-made clothing and footwear. , ■
