CONDITIONS IN TRIESTE

BRITAIN DENIES YUGOSLAV CHARGES

London, Jan. 16

Britain has sent a Note to Yugoslavia about conditions in Trieste, denying charges made by Yugoslavia about the actions of the Allied Military Government there. The British Note says that the Allied Military Government has scrupulously avoided exceeding its powers and then goes on to describe happenings in the Yugoslav zone of Trieste. The Note says that political life in this zone had been suppressed, laws had been made to victimise people whose political opinions were not those of the Yugoslav Government, and that the Yugoslav authorities were trying to create conditions which would threaten the eventual independence of the free territory of Trieste.
