LARGE CONSIGNMENT OF TIMBER

EXPORT FROM ROTORUA DISTRICT

RECORD SHIPMENT FROM AREA

(P.A.)

Rotorua, Jan. 15

The final consignments of a total shipment of 520,000 feet of sawn pinus insignis timber for export to Australia left Rotorua today. This is a record shipment for Rotorua, the previous highest being 500.000 feet which was exported to Australia last August. All the timber has come from the Waipa State mill and represents a portion of the cutting since the holiday period. Starting last Wednesday efforts were made by the State Forest Service and railway officials at Rotorua to have the 520,000 ft of timber railed to the Auckland wharves by today to be loaded on vessels going to Australia. This was achieved early this afternoon. Another large consignment will probably be ready for export about the end of February.
