FAT RATION TO BE INCREASED

EXTRA OUNCE A WEEK BRITAIN DETERMINED TO PAY HER WAY London, Jan. 14. The British Food Minister, Mr John Strachey, announces that the British fat ration is to be increased by one ounce, making it eight ounces a week. People will get four ounces of margarine instead of three. The increase will start in February and Mr Strachev said it will be in force during the next two months, the period when effective cuts in Britain's food supplies from dollar areas will be particularly heavy. After that the situation will be reviewed.

Mr Strachey also declared in London today'that the British people were determined that the former supplies of Canadian agricultural produce to the United Kingdom would be continued.

On its ability to pay for imports, he said that it was by no means the case that Britain would be unable in, 1948 to meet her bills. Britain would restrict herself to any degree in order to pay her way.
