Sister R. E. Gallagher has disposed of her interest in Waimarie Nursing Home and has been appointed Matron of St. Peter’s School, Cambridge. Mr R. McKenzie, postmaster at Rotorua, who has been transferred to Thames as postmaster, left Rotorua yesterday to take up his new appointment.
Mr S. H. Lee, M. A., of the staff of Tauranga College, has been successful, in the recent examinations, in passing the final of the Bachelor of Commerce degree.
The Nuffield professor of surgery at Oxford and consulting neurosurgeon to the British Army, Sir Hugh Cairns, will arrive in Auckland from Sydney by flving-boat today on a visit to New Zealand. Aneminent brain surgeon, he is undertaking a tour of Australia and New Zealand as the first travelling professor under the Sims Commonwealth endowment scheme.
The Commonwealth Government has decided to appoint Poir. Admiral J. A. Collins, C. 8., R.A.N., First Naval Member and Chief of the Naval Staff. He will succeed Admiral Sir Louis Hamilton. K.C B D.S.O. and bar. R.N. Rear-Admiral Collins is the first Australian to be appointed to this position, Britain having provided officers in the past.
