FASHIONS FROM PARIS

CATERING FOR THE EASTERN COUNTRIES

Parisiennes are letting down their hems as far as they will go, according to fashion paragraphs from Paris received by Miss Daphne Staff of the New Zealand Wool Board. The hunt for pieces to make false hems has begun. Most women find it less of a problem to lengthen wool frocks than to let down those made in other fibres. False hems fall better on wool skirts and the mark of the previous turn-up is far less obvious, owing to the greater elasticity and lasting qualities of the natural fibre. Printed wools and embroidered wool mousselines promise to feature prominently among the fabrics for spring and summer, 1948, in Paris. Many of the new wool moussalines are eminently suitable for saris. Inspired by the interest the East and Near East are beginning to show in wool as opposed to the cottons and silk customarily worn, certain French fabric manufacturers—notably those who have already built up clienteles in the Orient—are making a special feature of such wool fabrics.
