EIGHT-HOUR DAY RESUMED

DOBSON STATE COAL MINERS

ATTENDANCE AT HUNTLY COLLERIES •

(P.A.) Greymoulh, Jan. 12. After taking unilateral action last week in regard to the seven-hour day bank to bank, the Dobson State coal miners today reversed their decision. At a slopwork meeting they decided to discontinue the seven hout shift and to remain in the mine today until 4 p.m., the normal knockoff time.

Wallssnd was today the only mine on the West Coast working a seven hour shift. The Wallsend miners decided last week to adopt the same policy as the Dobson men, but did not meet before commencing work this morning.

No official explanation has been given in respect of the original decision taken at Dobson or regarding the change today. It appears likoly, however that it is connected'with the request of the miners’ national organisation that the seven-hour day should commence on April 1. The request has already been acceded to by tne Kunanga district miners.

The attendance of workers at the Renown coal mine returned to normal today. The position was almost back to normal at the Rotowaro, Alison and Pukemiro colleries, but only about two-thirds of the miners resumed work at the Glen Afton and MacDonald mines.
