MEAT COUPON VALUES
INCREASES TO MEET HIGHER PRICES (P.A.) Auckland, today. As from today the value of H meat coupons will be increased from 5d to lOd in the North Island, making the total for one week 2s Id, and lid in the South Island, 2s ’2d a week, and the value of J coupons from 5d to 7d in the North Island and 8d in the South Island. This is to meet the new scale of retail meat prices, which shows increases ranging from lid a pound for cheaper cuts to 3d a pound for choicer grades. The H and J coupons will now entitle hotel and restaurant diners to two meals of rationed meat. The ordinary 3d coupon will continue to be available for one meal. In defining the new values of meat coupons, the Rationing Controller, Mr A. J. Costelloe, states that H or J coupons can be cut in two diagonally and each half surrendered for one meat meal. This applies, however, only to meals of rationed meat bought in hotels and restaurants, and cut H or J coupons must not be tendered by the public when buying supplies from butchers.
