VALUE OF PLANE SERVICE

ISOLATION OF MOTITI ISLAND SUGGESTION ■BY CLUB I INSTRUCTOR The service that could be rendered by the Tauvanga Aero Club to residents at Motiti Island was emphasised by the club, instructor (Mr R. I. Graham) to a representative oC the Times yesterday when referring •to a recent article in the Times concerning the island's isolation and the installation of the radio-telephone -system, which was a very desirable amenity. . Mr Graham explained that subject to the. approval of the Minister of I Aviation, Motiti Island could be ' linked up with the mainland by the Tauranga Aero Club. The airline distance between the mainland and the island was only 12 miles, which meant it was practically on the circuit. It wa.s pointed out that a Tiger moth could be landed on the island as it was now and with a certain amount of liaison between the club and the islanders a Waco could also be ' taken down there. A plane, 'Which would bring the island within ten minutes' flying distance of the mainland/could be available for any emergency and could even transport cream, mails.and other necessities.
