RECORD MAILS AT TAURANGA

SILGHT DECREASE IN TELEGRAMS

‘Co-Operation Of Public

Appreciated

Post Office Closing On January 1 And 2

During fire week preceding Christmas 1517 bags of mail were handled at the Tauranga Post Office —an excess of 104 bags over that of the previous Christmas season. Eight hundred and fifty-eight bags were received and 659 bags despatched. Telegraph traffic was spread very evenly over the few days before Christmas, the busiest traffic conditions .being experienced on December 23 and 24 -when 1769 and 2241 telegrams were handled respectively. These figures show a slight decrease as compared with those of last year when traffic was concentrated largely on two days. The co-operation of the public in transacting their postal business as early as possible was appreciated by the Post Office and resulted in minimising the congestion and delays which are slometimes experienced at this season of the year.

Mails have now returned to normal but owing to the large influx of visitors telegraph traffic is still busy and is likely to continue so for some weeks. Nio delays are anticipated, however, the machine-printing telegraph facilities being capable of handling a large volume of traffic. Close holidays will be observed by 'the Post Office on New Year’s Day and January 2. On the latter day a mail will be despatched to principal offices at 8 a.m.
