Referring to-day to Spain the British Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Dir McNeil) said the British Ambassador to Madrid has emphasise:? tt>, the responsible Spanish Ministers that'strong feeling was aroused abroad by the continuing trial of civilians by court miutial and by the unjustifiably heavy sentences for what he called, substantially po’itical offences.
The Spanish authorities have replied that since 19-10 20ft.ftftft pris : oneis leave been released conditionally. They added that some 40,000 people were still in prison.
