General situation: A depression lies to the north of New Zealand and an anti-cyclone is advancing rapidly across the south Tasman Sea on to the South Island. The following forecast applies up to midnight to-night: Moderate south-easterly to southerly winds. One or two patches of rain but weather improving. Temperatures moderate.
