TABLE TENNIS CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

The annual meeting of the lauriko Table Tennis Chib was held in the Tauriko Hall on Wednesday last, Mr J. L. Geraghty presiding over a pleasing attendance.

In presenting the, chairman’s report Mr Geraghty made reference to the very successful season the club had experienced in 1945, it being one of the most active seasons on record. The club had affiliated with the Tauranga Table Tennis Association and, had staged a number of matches with outside clubs. In these matches Tauriko had held its own quite successfully with the exception of its meeting with the very, strong Tauranga team, which he held up as an example of excellent coaching for younger players.

Mr Geraghty, who declined to offer his services for re-election, thanked the committee for its cooperation during the past year and' also the club for the excellent spirit and fellowship that had prevailed. He wished the incoming committee every success-for 194 G. The financial statement, which showed a small credit balance, was read and adopted. The election of officers resulted in Mr and Mrs R. Hewland taking the positions of t;aptain and vice-captain respectively. Mrs D. McGregor was elected secretary treasurer and Mrs E. O. Doidge and Miss R. Johns were elected to the committee. A vote of thanks to the past committee and retiring chairman and secretary, was carried by acclamation.

It was decided to approach the Hall Committee regarding lighting and also to have the tables reconditioned by tradesmen. ' To facilitate the club in its finances it was decided to raise the subscription slightly and to make a smaj-l charge for all casual players. The opening night for the 1946 season was fixed for Friday May 3, at 7.30, when it is hoped all intending members will be present. Personal Mi- M. Dent is at present on a fortnight’s holiday at Whangarei. Misses M. and L. Hastings have returned from a visit to Auckland. Mr J. L. Geraghty visited Auckland for the Easter vacation. Mr an dMrs G. Webster, of Te Poi, were the. guests of Mr and Mrs R. New land during Easter week.

Mr and Mrs H. Hastings spent the Easter vacation at Katikati and Waihi.

Mr H. Johns is at present spending a fortnight’s holiday with relatives at Te Archa.

Misses R. Johns and J. Dabb spent Easter with the Baptist Youth Camp at the Opal Springs, Matamata. '[ FARMERS’ UNION Mr H. F. Merriman presided over a very large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Tauriko branch of the Farmers” Union.

The feature of the evpning was an extremely enlightening address on the advancement and history of the Farmers’ Union since its inception. The speakers for the evenifig were Mr R. W. Dunning, sub-provincial president and Mr • Scott-Dayidson, provincial vice-present. 1 A vote of thanks moved by the chairman was carried unanimously.
