TEN YEARS’ PENAL SERVITUDE
LECTURER IN PHYSICS SENTENCED Gave Evidence About Atomic Research Offence Not Committed ; For Money London, May 1. At the Central Criminal Court in London to-day Dr. Alan Nun May, a 3 4-year-old lecturer in physics at London University, was sentenced to ten years’ penal servitude for an offence under the Official Secrets Act. The Attorney-General, Sir Hartiley Shawcross, prosecuted and said May had pleaded guilty to giving infer: mation about atomic research which -was calculated to be useful to an enemy. The defending counsel said May had told him he had given information to a Russian. May had not committed the offence for money.
