C. Baron) when outlining ft Tariff Committee’s report at k monthly meeting of the Taurarga Electric Power Board on Tuesday 6 ■ The chairman slated that question of alterations to the board's tariff was considered at a meeting of the committee, set up for thafp Ur . pose, held on January 24, 194(j, A very complete set of statistics had been prepared by the secretary aid were placed before the meeting.
The restrictions under which the board was operating, culminating in actual cut cIT during the winter o[ 1945, had had a material effect on the board’s progress and also ms unfortunately the cause of no little inconvenience to consumers. 1 The statistics placed before the committee, added the chairman, revealed that in the Te Puke district a considerable decrease had been re corded in the higher priced units for domestic supply while a decrease was shown in respect to units used in the milking sheds. In the Kalikati area a considerable reduction was shown in respect to units for domestic consumption while an increase for power was recorded. It was pointed out that as the field pumps were being run at a loss;to the board some adjustment had to be made in that direction. The board’s charges for power for sheds, namely, 2d per unit, were, said the chairman, on the whole lower than the rates operating it September, 1941, this being the date at which electricity prices were stabilised, and a revision of these charges to be in line with the price regulations bad now been prepared on the following basis:— First 165 units per month, 2|d. jj Balance units per month, lid, ; This adjustment would increase the rates being paid at present ¥ the majority of consumers but it no case would any consumer be called on to pay more for the milking power than he was paying prior to 1942. In connection with tariff charges, a letter, was received from the office of the Brice Tribunal acknowledging receipt of the board’s letter applyin? for authority to increase the board's charges. The letter stated that one of t« items announced by the Governmen* as stabilised from September 1, was electric current. Increases u stabilised items could not be ap proved by the tribunal unless erdence warranting such inCl 6356 could be placed before the Econo® 1 Stabilisation Commission.
The position, added the letter,- K far as the board w<ts concerned 8 pended upon the date in 1941 j it reduced the charge from 3a Punit to 2d. If this curred before September ' then the tribunal was retinue hold the price at 2d, until, i loaie ', deuce submitted, it could |' eC0 ™® e Hit stabilisation commission 0 . prove an increase. If, horvmei, . reduction took place 1,, 1941, then when slapui came into force the board s c were the September 1, 194 L . there could he reverted to application to the tribunal, • cf course to the same ter ms ant ditions applying. tll? The chairman explained reduction in the electricity c to 2d was made after September 1941, and therefore it was in to revert to a charge of 2a • . reduction, he said, was nia experiment to see bow it J cut, olid was subject tc a It was decided that, ment in tariff he m ought soon as possible. -
