GREAT CONCERN EXPRESSED

INCREASED POWER ALLOCATION Action Of Manufacturing Interests Power Board To Protest Concern at the action being taken by Auckland manufacturing interests to get an increased power allocation for the Auckland Power ißmard at the expense of other supply authorities in the North Island, was expressed in a telegram from the Waitemata Power Board received at the monthly meeting of the Tauranga Electric Power Board on Tuesday. The telegram stated that the Waitemata hoard was greatly concerned regarding the positive action beingtaken by Auckland manufactm ing interests to get increased power allocation for the Auckland Power Board at the expense of othex supply authorities in the North Island, and the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation was again pressing Mr P. T. M. Kissel, Director of Electricity, in Wellington to alter present allocations. It was respectfully suggested that the board telegraph Mr Kissel urgently, strongly protesting against any alterations in present allocations as fixed by himself and the committee of experts representing town and country interests. The secretary (Mr J. R. Chambers) pointed out that the present basis had been arrived, at as fairly as the committee could possibly do it. . A statement'that he would suggest that the present allocation fixed by the committee be in no way altered, was made by Mr G. T. Wilson. It had been stated, said the secretary, that the manufacturers were the backbone of the country and must have power. What, he asked, about the primary producer? The board decided to send a‘ telegram as requested protesting against any alteration in the power allocation at the expense of the primary producer. It was announced yesterday that the following telegram had been forwarded to the State Hydro Electric Department by the chairman of the board ; “My board protests against any alteration to our consumers’ detriment under pressure from any particular group of interested parties in the present allocation of power quotas as fixed by special committee. My Board considers that the requirements of primary producers should receive every consideration.’’
