JAPANESE BASES IN NEW GUINEA Rabaul Also Attacked Another Assault on The Kindles London. April 17. Further heavy raids have been carried out by Allied airmen on Japanese bases on the north coast of New Guinea in the South-west Pacific. Over 300 tons of bombs were dropped and enemy installations and supply dumps were damaged. In the latest raid on Rabaul. 100 tons of bombs were dropped and there was a big explosion. On Bougainville our airmen have been engaged in backing up the ground forces. It is reported that American airmen have made a further raid on the Kuriles which lie north-east of the Japanese mainland. This was the fifth raid on the Kuriles in as many days.
