U.S. SHIPS DISAPPEAR avithout TRACE WARSHIPS ALSO VANISH Washington. April 16. Several American merchant ships have disappeared since the outbreak of war without trace. Maritime Commission officials said they could not give the number for security reasons, but it was over six, and under 12. The officials added that when the details were released they would provide first-class mystery thrillers. Lieutenant Zeidler, who relinquished the mayoralty of Milwaukee to join the Navy, was serving as chief of the naval gun crew in a ship which disappeared in the South Atlantic in November, 1942. Several United States warships had also disappeared. ________
