HOW TO PROTECT PETROL CAP
Any easily detachable part of a car may get lost or engage the attention of thieves. In either case it may be difficult to replace. Take a petrol filler cap, for instance. On some cars it is of the quickly detachable type and has a safety wire attached. Where no such device is employed you might well consider fitting a wire or chain. This will not stop a determined thief, of course, but it will give a measure of protection. Fix it by drilling a hole through the filler neck and inserting a screw with two lock-nuts on the inside. Open out the slot in the screw head so that a screwdriver will fail to grip. Sandwich the end of the wire or chain between the nuts and the filler neck.
