1944 TRUCK OUTPUT QUADRUPLED
AID TO CIVILIANS IN U.S.A.
Number of trucks to be built in the U.S.A. for civilian use in 1944 has been quadrupled, and manufacturers have been given materials procurement priority ratings equal to those assigned to the production of aircraft and high octane motor fuel. Trade observers believe that most of these trucks will be built in the last half of 1944 with Army trucks coming first. Orders will be spread among all manufacturers, including Chevrolet and Ford, previously not markedly in the medium and heavy field. The programme also calls for increased production of parts.
