A MEXICAN PLOT

ATTEMPTS ON PRESIDENT’S LIFE MANY ARRESTS MADE

Mexico City, April. 13

The Chief of Police, General Martinez, has announced that 14 persons have been arrested on charges of plotting to assassinate the President, General Camacho, his brother,, the Minister of Communications, Senor Maximino Camacho, the Minister of Defence, Senor Lazaro Cardenas, and a former President, General Plutarco Calles.

General Martinez said the plot was not connected with the attempted assassination of General Camacho on Monday last, hut was'uncovered during the investigation of that outrage.

General Martinez added that the plotters resented alleged religious persecution. He described the plot as a ridiculous one: The ringleader is aged 70 and all are over CO. The only weapons found were two bombs, so old that they are probably incapable of causing damage. All of the accused have confessed.

(An earlier cablegram stated that President Camacho was shot at by Lieutenant Rojas when walking from his car to a private elevator in the National Palace. The President was not wounded. Rojas was arrested and later it was officially announced that he was gravely wounded when attempting to escape from a military prison. He died later).
