CASUALTIES IN WAR

TOTAL OF 2422

Melbourne, April 14

The Australian Navy since the war began has suffered 2422 casualties, comprising 1327 deaths, including 167 caused by sickness and accident, 230 wounded. 523 missing and 333 prisoners of war. This statement was issued by the Minister of the Navy, Mr Makin, to clear up a misunderstanding caused by figures quoted by the Minister of the Army, Mr Forde, which gave the number of deaths in action suffered by the Navy as 335.
