Transferred To Germany.
Official advice has been received by Mr and Mrs R. Neilson of Tauranga, that their son, Bombardier Donal A. Neilson, who was a prisoner of war, has been transferred from Campo 57 in Northern Italy to Stalag VIIIA, Germany.
The Mount’s Progress
A statement to the effect that if all those people who desired to erect houses at Mount Maunganui were able to do so now he did not think many people would know the Mount in six months’ time, was made by a witness in the course of a sitting of the Land Sales Committee in Tauranga yesterday. He added that the demand for good sections at the Mount far exceeeded the supply.
Patriotic Shop.
The Gate Pa Women’s Institute was in charge of the Patriotic Shop on Friday last when £l4 15s was taken. The following are the results of the competitions: Cot quilt, Mrs Stanley; smock, Mrs Hearfield; tea cosy, Mrs'Borrie (Kaimai); doll “J. W.” (Otumoetai); plate rack, J. Goldstone; tobacco jar, “J.W.” (Otumoetai); stool, Miss Wrigley; dinner, Mrs Humphreys; cake, Mrs W. Mansel. The sheets which Hartleys gave for competition for the Merchant Navy fund went to Mrs Galpin, Fourth Avenue.

The price at which a property changed hands eight years ago was being discussed during the sitting of the Land Sales Committee in-Tau-ranga yesterday, when Mr W. S. Holland, who appeared in support of the application before the committee remarked that the depression was then being experienced. The witness, who was being crossexamined by Mr Holland, countered this by stating that the depression was then “beginning to lift.” “I think we were still turning corners,’ replied Mr Holland; recalling the oft-repeated remarks of statesmen of those murky days.
