Match With Tc Puke
The R.N.Z.A.F. team was granted permission at the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Tauranga Rugby Union on Monday evening to visit Te Puke on Saturday next to play the Te Puke team. The Weather Heavy showers were experienced last evening and this morning, .19 inches being recorded on the Times gauge at 8 o’clock. When this recording was taken heavy rain was still falling, and a light mist was in evidence. Last evening a double ring which completely encircled the moon, was observed for some time.
Benefit Rugby Match A benefit Rugby match will be played on the Domain on Saturday, August 28, according to the decision of the management committee of the Tauranga Rugby Union at its weekly meeting. The proceeds will go to the Tauranga branches of the Red Cross Society and the St. John Ambulance Association.
Fire Brigade Competition. After a break of some months competition runs were recommenced in the Tauranga Fire Brigade on Tuesday evening last. Competition was keen and very little separated the first three teams. The result of the run was as follows: Fireman H. Bickers and Aux. K. Gifford 1, Fireman J. Downey and Aux. L. Hammond 2, Fireman L. Crewe and Aux. J. Chantry, and Secretary E. Fletcher and Aux L. Green equal 3. National War Savings Towns numbering 19 S attained their National War Savings quotas last week. 'ln IT out of the IS postal districts the full district quota was reached and all the principal centres were successful. New savings group certificates- will be available shortly for presentation to firms with over SO per cent, of their staffs contributing regularly through war savings groups. The maintenance of interest as shown by the continued quota successes indicates that there will be a heavy initial demand for these certificates.
