Mining District Bombed
Twenty Planes Lost

The R.A.F. was out over Germany again last night in great strength.
This time their target was Aachen or Aix-la-Chapelle. This is the centre of a large mining district and also has heavy industries. Full details of the- raid arc not yet to hand, but the air Ministry states that 20 of our bombers failed to return. Extensive operations were also carried out last night over franco and the Low Countries by ouf night fighters. One Mosquito shot down a Jtyrnier over its base and a second GNW'nian plane fell to another Mosqnit®. All cur fighters returned to base. A town on the north-east eftftst of Britain was attacked last and some persons were killed. Tfo of the raiders were shot down. • The casualties caused hi Britain, by enemy air attacks dUl'tfig June were 201 killed and 284 sent to hospital. Among those lost their lives were (57 women and 15 children. 1 These figures show a big decrease on those for May, during which month 584 were killed and 733 injured. ;
