Enemy Losses Still Mounting London. July LI. The main weight of the Gorman offensive in the Kursk salient is still being exerted in the Hlelgorod area. All day yesterday the Germans made repeated attacks in an endeavour to widen the wedge which they have 'driven into the Russian lines. The Russians, however, did not give any ground. The fiercest fighting was at the tip of the wedge and here a number of places changed hands twice or more during the day. Soviet forces, however. launched a strong counterattack at the base of the wedge and stabilised the position. At the Orel end of the salient (he German offensive has completely died down. General von Kluge is regrouping his shattered forces after nine days of costly fighting which brought him no gains whatever but very substantial losses in men and machines. Moscow states that it is expected that the German offensive will he resumed shortly. On Monday the Germans lost 100 tanks destroyed or disabled, a large percentage of them Tigers. Yesterday (he enemy lost another 9G tanks. There has been further patrol and artillery activity north of Moscow.
