BLOWS AT ITALY

S.A.F. STRIKES AGAIN

Big Raid On Turin

Fiat Works Bombed

London. Nov. 10

The inhabitants of northern Italy again heard the roar of Britain's heavy bombers last night as the R.A.F. opened the bomb doors of the giant Halifaxes over Turin. Our home-based bombers were attacking the great Fiat works which employs 5 0.00 0 workers. The principal wartime output of these works is aeroplane engines and tractors. Blight moonlight aided by flares gave our pilots an excellent view of the target. At one time seven Halifaxes were flying wing tip to wing tip over the city. Many 4 0001 b. bombs were dropped. One of these hit the east corner of the works and many large fires were observed, which were seen to increase rapidly in size. Anti-aircraft fire, which was fairly strong at first, had all died down at the end of the attack.

One of our pilots said that the big buildings went up like mushrooms. All our planes returned safely. This is the fourth raid on northem Italy in which the R.A.F .has suffered no losses.

Turin is a key centre of Italian war industry. In addi.ion to the huge Fiat works, which are so large that they accommodate a motor-car racing track on the roof of the main building, Turin is the home of a branch of the Caproni aeroplane works, the Italian Royal Arsenal and other important war production plants.

The Italians admit heavy damage in this latest raid on their territory. The explosions in Turin were so heavy that they were heard over the Swiss border more than SO miles from the city.
