LULL ENDS

STALINGRAD BATTLE

New Enemy Attacks

Russians Gain Ground at Mozdok

London, Oct. 13

The situation at Stalingrad has undergone a change and the threeday lull in the fighting is now at an

German attacks are not yet on big scale and so far there have been no new tank attacks.

Last night Russian soldiers found their way through the German lines and put two big enemy guns out of action.

North-west of the city Marshal Timoshenko’s drive is still tying up large numbers: of German forces. The Russians in this area have made a further advance to the south.

Russian air activity round Stalingrad is principally directed in finding out where the next main blow from the enemy will fall. Whatever force is thrown against them the Russians do not intend to let the Germans take Stalingrad.

, In the Mozclok area in the Caucasus the Red Army has gained more ground from the Germans and has held it against repeated enemy attacks for eight days. There has been fierce local fighting on the Leningrad front and in three days Soviet troops have destroyed 25 enemy blockhouses. The Germans state that the Royal Air Force has attacked German towns on the Baltic. No mention of this is made in London. The Russians are performing miracles of tank surgery and all kinds of damaged vehicles are being repaired with great speed. Moscow is busy preparing for a second war winter and fuel is pouring into the city from the rear. The Moscow coal mines which had been heavily damaged are now putting out more coal than in peacetime.
