ENEMY DESTROYER Mediterranean Operations U.S. Planes Attack Convoy London. Oct. 12. In the Mediterranean yesterday evening an enemy destroyer received a direct hit from a heavy calibre armour-piercing bomb. There was a big flash followed by a heavy explosion. Two direct hits were also scored by United States planes on two big enemy merchantmen escorted by six destroyers south of Crete. One vessel was left ablaze. All the U.S. planes returned safely after shooting down two neemy planes out of six which attacked them.
